Jason Mahi, 33, a manager at the Anchorage, Alaska Walmart where Mr. Pirtle shops, asked Mr. Pirtle to put his service dog on a leash while shopping inside the Walmart. According to the Americans with Disabilities Act, the manager of the Walmart was well within legal parameters to request Mr. Pirtle to do so.
An argument over the service dog ensued, Mr. Pirtle pulled out one of the two pistols he was carrying, and shot the hapless Walmart manager.
An off duty police officer detained Mr. Pirtle as he attempted to flee the Walmart on his motorized scooter. Doubtlessly, this was a difficult and heroic action on the part of the police officer.
Unfortunately, the Walmart manager, Mr. Mahi is unable to comment at this point in time, as he is in critical condition in the intensive care unit of a hospital.
Lets hope that Mr. Pirtle doesn't miss his service dog too much while he's in prison.
