Ok this is something I tried back in October, to help celebrate oktoberfest, of course.
Flying Dog Brewery's Dogtoberfest. This beer is definitely one of those classic oktoberfest german style marzen beers. If you don't know the marzen style, it means its heavy on the malt, and heavy on the carmel flavor. I'm not huge on dark beers but this one really hit the spot. This is one of those beers that is distributed widely, so if you happen to see it around next October, pick up a 6er. This beer gets 2 thumbs up from me.
Dogfish HeadBurton Baton. This is one of those beers I only see around once in a while. Dogfish Head only brews it three times a year. 10% alcohol. Its a lot like the 90 minute Imperial IPA but they mix it with some other type of ale and age it in oak barrels, so the flavor is a a little different. This is good stuff though, so if you ever see it get it. Its definitely a rare beer find.
This beer is one of my favorites. It comes in 4 packs. A four pack doesn't seem like much, but even a four pack of the 90 Minute IPA is kind of excessive for one person in one evening. This four pack is definitely something you'd split with a friend.
With 9% alcohol it packs a bit of a punch. I've found that once an IPA goes over the 10% mark it treads dangerously close to having an alcohol flavor to it. So at 9% the 90 minute is just right.
Slightly bitter, citrusy, and extremely hoppy, but overall it all balances out. To me it tastes slightly creamy, but its just that smooth.
If you've never had an IPA before, this probably isn't the best place to start. Or if you don't like IPAs at all (and you're nuts), then avoid it. Like coffee, IPAs are kind of an acquired taste. However if you are the "I tried it, I like it, I want some more of it type" then the 90 Minute is certainly something you need to try!
