Red Hare Creamsic-Ale

Uh oh, its Beer Tuesday again, and today I'm gonna be discussing a beer that I tried recently that is pretty much "as described A+++ would drink again."

Cotton Tail Orange Creamsic-Ale, from Red Hare Brewing. I'm gonna have to be honest and admit, I've never been a big fan of creamsicles (I think I spelled that right). However, if there was ever a beer that tasted like a creamsicle, this would be it. I enjoy trying the local beers so when I saw this for sale I had to buy it (even though I've still never tried their sticky stout, I'm not a huge stout fan but every time I'm in the mood I can't find it. damn seasonals).

Ok, so how can I sum this beer up? Once again, I defer to Red Hare to do the work..

Yea, I stole that screenshot off their website. Sue me.

My impression? I can't even defer to beer advocate to help me out describing this one. Its too new.

*DISCLAIMER: I'm pretty shitty at describing the way stuff tastes in my mouth. One time I met a sommelier and asked what a beer I really liked tasted like to them, they went on and on and I can't remember the details, but at one point they said, "bubble gum." I was like what? Wait? Bubblegum? That beer had bubblegum notes? Where the fuck did they get that from? I have no idea. All I know, is that I'm in no way, shape, or form, a goddamn sommelier.

I didn't actually pour this beer into a cup, I drank it straight out of the can while I grilling some ribs. But it tastes VERY orangey. No hint of alcohol flavor whatsoever. I can't even comment on that because red hare doesn't tend to advertise the alcohol content of their beers, but I'd be shocked if it was over 6%. If it is over 6%, they did a really superb job of blending the flavors. And how the hell did they get that creamy flavor? I'm guessing the hops. It reminded me of how Dogfish Head 60/90 min IPAs have a sort of creamy flavor. Definitely not bitter and an easy drinker. Again, I drank it out of the can so I can't really comment on the nose. The backtaste is totally creamsicle, though.

All in all I rate this beer a 4/5. Its a well-executed novelty seasonal. Lots of fun but I still thing Gangway is better.
