I grew up eating at Angelo's Coney Island on the east side of Flint every Saturday morning with my mom. I have a million fond memories of being a little kid tucked into one of the booths happily eating stacks of pancakes, ham and cheese omelettes, mountains of toast, and washing it all down with chocolate shakes. I remember the happy friendly waitresses, being fascinated by grill in the back, and the 5 cent peppermint patties they sold on top of the counter. This was back in the early 1980's.
In 1999, after being away from Flint for a while, I decided to relive the happy memory one night. I went there at about 11pm, and while waiting for an omelette, my guest and I were treated to the sight of prostitute giving a guy a lapdance in one of the booths.
I went back to Angelo's again in 2014, and saw the place has gone even further down the crapper. A shell of its former glory, just like most other things in Flint, Angelo's was dirty, dingy, and run-down.
When I sat down, the waitress pointed to the wall and told me that the menus were there. Basically just a stack of take out flyers on a shelf attached to the wall.
A sign outside and the menu loudly proclaimed, "The old owner is BACK!" Well, I'm not sure where the hell he was back from, but it certainly didn't make the place any better.
UPDATE December 28th 2018: The Angelo's location on Davison and Franklin that I was writing about is now permanently closed. There is still a location that is open in Grand Blanc, however.
