What is Glazing?

When painting, glazing refers to the application of a thin light colored layer of paint over another layer of paint.

Start with opaque colors, and build into transparent colors. In other words, lay down the base with a dark color, and work your way lighter and lighter. You can theoretically apply an infinite amount of layers.

Glazing is NOT a complicated painting technique in practice. However, it sounds unnecessarily difficult when you read about it. The only way to really master glazing is spend some quality time mixing paints and experimenting. Glazing can be done using all types of different mediums, including but not limited to oil paints and acrylics.
